Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) Position[top]

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Performing venipuncture and properly handling and storing (i.e., correct temperature or other specified conditions) collected specimens them
  • Performing centrifugation and processing of blood specimens
  • Ensuring that specimens are labeled appropriately and processed according to test-specific requirements
  • Maintaining of sample inventory and logs.
  • Performing hematology testing including complete blood count (CBC), coagulation and platelet function testing
  • Maintaining of laboratory equipment for hematology testing such as centrifuges, water baths, hematology and coagulation analyzers and aggregometers
  • Communicating findings effectively with colleagues and outside clients
  • Record keeping for equipment maintenance and experimental test results
  • Strict adherence to SOPs and laboratory procedures to maintain conformance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP)
  • Handling chemical and biological hazards in accordance with safety policies
  • Promoting organizational best practices
  • Identifying suggestions for process improvement initiatives
  • Protecting organization's value by keeping information confidential
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


  • Active Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Technologist with State of TN license
  • 5+ years of experience in platelet, coagulation, and other hematology work in a clinical lab
  • Experience with Light Transmission Aggregometry (LTA) and familiarity with flow cytometry is required
  • Minimum of high school diploma or associates degree, relevant science coursework recommended for technician position; Bachelor’s degree for technologist position
  • Must possess initiative, enthusiasm, curiosity, a positive attitude and ability to perform as a team player
  • Must possess problem solving skills and be results oriented
  • Experience with computer software such as MicroSoft Office (i.e., Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
